Why Marketing?
Because whether your business offers the best quality services or value – or your nonprofit improves lives – you must be able to communicate the impact you make.
PORTFOLIO
HILLARY MILLMAN
Nonprofit organizations in Westchester and Putnam counties relieve suffering, create opportunity, offer hope and inspire all of us to do more. Small businesses create jobs, provide essential services and give back to the community. It’s my privilege to play a small part in your important work.
My job is to help business owners and nonprofit leaders increase visibility, connect with stakeholders, and solve all manner of communications-related challenges. It’s fun and meaningful, and I love it.
Speaking of important work, I am also the Executive Director of the Association of Development Officers (ADO) – a 501c3 membership organization for nonprofit fundraisers and those who work with and support them. We provide a forum for these professionals to learn from industry experts and each other, network and share best practices, and more.
Prior to founding In Better Words in 2012, I was the Director of Communications for the Business Council of Westchester. I marketed the organization and managed communications with its 1,000+ members, worked with small groups of business owners and human resources professionals to develop best practices, and ran events. It was at the Business Council I learned so much about business and marketing, and I’m fortunate to have so many positive business relationships and friendships from my time there. Make sure you join!
In addition to my work with clients I am a proud Board member of the YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester (is your board service in your bio? It should be!) and enjoy presenting to groups about marketing, messaging and fundraising. For seven years, I was an adjunct instructor at the College of Westchester in White Plains, where I taught business, marketing, professional communications, event planning and other courses.
When not working, I fret about the weeds in my native pollinator garden, hike, take pictures, travel when I can, and hang out with the chipmunk who lives under the stairs outside my front door. I named him… Chippy. Aren’t I clever?
